Neogen provides a product line of ELISA test kits and reagents used for multiple applications in the research and diagnostic industries such as laboratories, contract pharmaceutical research labs, pre-clinical labs and academic institutions.  This line of kits are ultra-sensitive, quick and dependable assays for determining hormones, steroids, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, thromboxanes, cyclic nucleotides and lipoxin levels in a wide range of sample and specie types.

These direct competitive ELISA assays operate on the basis of competition between the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) enzyme conjugate and the analyte in the sample for a limited number of specific binding sites on the pre-coated microplate.  The sample or standard solution is first added to the pre-coated antibody microplate, after which the diluted enzyme conjugate is added and the mixture shaken and incubated at room temperature for one hour.  The plate is washed to remove all unbound material.  Detection of the bound enzyme conjugate is seen by the addition of a TMB based substrate which generates an optimal colour after 30 minutes.  Quantitative results can be obtained by measuring and comparing the absorbance reading of the wells of the samples against the standards with a microplate reader at 650nm.  Colour development is inversely proportional to the amount of analyte in the sample or standard.

Neogen's Competitive EIA Kits measure the "total" cytokine (free and bound) levels in serum and plasma.  This assay system detects more cytokine in biological fluids than conventional sandwich immunoassay formats because the dynamics of the assay are not affected by circulating binding proteins.
